Reading this again because it's so good!
This series is my favorite book series - ever. Hands down and for always. This book was a bit of a surprise when I first read it. The main character is a new one, someone not in the first two books. But I got sucked in right away and love it.

This is one of my favorite books in a long time. It is told mostly in third person following around the Royal guard Costis. So you have to spend some time guessing to Gen's motives instead of getting the inside scoop from Gen himself. If you have not read the first two books, you will miss a few things in this book and you may just think that Gen is a loony until the end. I highly recommend reading the first two books just so you can enjoy this one to its fullest.
