Okay, I love Maureen Johnson. She is a lovely and intelligent and hilarious person. So far, I've enjoyed all the books she's written. (I'm pretty sure I've read all of them...)

That said, I found The Name of the Star somewhat disappointing. I don't know, maybe I had unrealistically high expectations, and I also thought the book would be about something completely different. But, don't get me wrong. I did enjoy this book. But, I suppose it just wasn't quite as good as I had hoped it would be.

What an AMAZING book! This is definitely one of the best books that I have read this year!!
The first thing that caught my eye about this book was the cover! It is very unique! The plot of this novel was very different and interesting! London is one my my favorite cities, so I loved reading about it! I also love to read about boarding schools so it was awesome to read about that as well.

This book kept me on the edge of me seat and I was constantly guessing what would happen next, only to be shock

What a fun book to read! The main character, Rory's parents move to England for business and she decides to attend a private boarding school- to get the whole "English" experience. Shortly after moving in, bonding with her roommate, crushing on a guy, and secretly despising the resident "perfect" girl- tragedy hits London. Someone is murdering people in the same fashion and on the same days that Jack the Ripper struck years ago. Unfortunately, Rory is an eye witness to one of the murders and bec ...more

This was a really good read! It felt so modern day, and I loved all the London references and the setting,
especially the historical references. The story was really creepy and gruesome at times. I liked the ghost paranormal element. I was biting my nails by the end of it, and had no idea what was going to happen. Great twists, didn't see any of them coming! (except for one). The characters were great and very well done. I started out really liking Jerome, but not so much by the end! I really lik

Maureen Johnson loves London and this is another book that proves it. I couldn't put it down. A little history, a mystery, a little romance mixed in with some paranormal makes this book fun and riveting. The fantasy is a small departure for Maureen but like her other books, the protagonist is sharp, funny and a little awkward. I highly recommend it and look forward to future books in the series. ...more
