Rot and Ruin is a completely fresh new zombie series. It takes zombies in a post apocalyptic setting and creates a smart new dystopian novel. The world building in this book is incredible, and I was sucked in immediately.

The main focus of the story is Benny and his older brother Tom's relationship. Tom saved Benny from "First Night" when he was just a baby and has cared for him ever since. Benny thinks his brother is a coward since he ran away with Benny and left their parents to die. He doesn't

Wow! Am I super glad I picked this one up! What a fun ride. Great writing and characters and the audiobook narration made it all even better. I loved the entire world Mr. Maberry created here and am a huge fan of the Imura Brothers. BTW this was a pretty clean read and would be a great audiobook for a family trip with older kids (younger kids may be scared with the zombie content). I never thought I would like a zombie book. Can't wait for book two!! ...more

I've never really gotten into particular genre books. I read a few vampire novels, but to be honest they bore me after a while. And while I enjoyed the Romero movies when I was younger, I couldn't really imagine reading zombie novels. I read one called Feed by Mira Grant, but that wound up being more of a political thriller disguised as a zombie book - and it just didn't really grip me. Rot & Ruin, on the other hand, appealed to the old-school comic fan in me. I liked the characters from pretty ...more

This book was definitely interesting. I honestly thought it was going to be a book about zombie-slaying, but I was way off. Sure, there are zombies in this book and some zombie killing, but it is not a normal zombie book by any means. It poses the question of what is morally right and wrong when it comes to zombie killing and life.

I thought the characters were well developed. I enjoyed watching the main character, Benny, grow throughout the novel. In the beginning, he is ignorant of the ways of

I expected less from this book as I hadn't heard anything about it but this was filled with action, adventure and zombies! It's one of the first books I've read in the supernatural fantasy genre that I would say is written more for males than females but that didn't change the fact that it is a well written story that with the pictures and the graphic depictions kind of reminds me of a comic book. ...more
