2.5 Stars

I was hoping to write a more in-depth review of this, but I've just fallen so ridiculously behind on reviews and now it's been like three months since I actually read this book. And, well, my heart's not really in giving it a super in-depth review. Also I don't remember much about it. So, I'll be keeping this pretty simple and to-the-point.

I'd heard very mixed things about this book. And I find that usually when I hear mixed things about I book, I tend to fall on the side of the people

3.5 stars. I keep fluctuating between 3 and 4 stars on this one. The last part was excellent - at least 4 stars - but the whole long build up in the beginning almost made me quit reading; however, because it was so different and wonderfully strange I stuck with it.

Ms. Mordenstern is a beautiful writer with a very vivid imagination, so vivid in fact that I had a hard time going along with her sometimes. I really liked the characters but I can not say I really got to know them all that well.

I really really didn’t like this book. And I really really wanted to. I’ve had this book on my shelf for years and years, and have taken in back and forth when I have moved because I’ve heard so many great things about it. Obviously it is a well loved book.

I just couldn’t get into the style, I couldn’t get into the charters, I couldn’t wrap my brain around all the points of view. Sometimes it is a wonderful thing to start with a child from a young age and move with them to a satisfying conclusi

3 stars overall.

I have so many mixed feelings about this book and story in general. I loved the idea of this book more than I think I enjoyed the book itself. I’ll let you read to synopsis for more info regarding that. The author is brilliant at imagery. She truly is capable of putting you inside the environment she is describing. The problem is all the imagery is that it doesn’t contribute to the plot and as a result slows down the overarching story. The beginning and the end of this book were

I loved this book. It was recommended to me by a friend absolutely obsessed with it and now I have to go thank and we can both be obsessive together. The world was rich, lush and full of characters I completely and totally fell in love with. The concept was complicated but with a little thought I figured the challenge thing out. Watching Marco and Celia fall in love was so beautiful and heartbreaking and I thought the ending was completely satisfactory. No loose ends or unnecessarily sad deaths. ...more

Simply magical. As much as I love Jim Dale as a narrator... the Harry Potter series may have ruined him for any other book for me. I think I would have loved this book more if I had physically read it.
