Still one of the most interesting YA novels I’ve ever read. Excellent villain too.

Wanted to see if this is a good as I remember it. Yes, 5 years later, it still holds up. Wish there were more YA novels like this. Smart, but in an easy to read, fluffy package.

Many, many witty, acutely observant and/or funny bits.
Funny bits, eg:
Teacher Teen Dusk in her vintage track suit hurrying after Mrs. Dekker in her orange poncho: "Mrs. Dekker looked like a Dorito running away from a stoner." (p. 39)
..."Tyler gave him a little jerk of the chin by way of greeting. It's a gesture predicated on the notion that people are paying such close attention that even one's smallest movement will be noticed." (p. 74)

The format took me a little while to get into, but once I did, I was hooked. I think the cover does it a disservice - yes, it’s light and funny at times, but it’s a lot more serious and thoughtful than I would have guessed.
Terrific combination of witty humor and dark truths. Readers into dysfunctional family stories will like this one. I loved the "creative nonfiction" approach & footnotes.

Not a good book to read in e, because of the footnotes, but lots to recommend this one regardless.
Strong characters and great dialogue are a standout in this book.
