I know I won't go back to it, in spite of the unique narrator - a rapping Gujarati Indian girl living in Hawaii. This is a ya novel with great premise and a lot of promise, but which happened to be published in a very unpolished state.

The author of this YA novel is a physician who practices psychiatry and for this reason the character of Rani, her mother and father are very vivid and realistic characters. There are a lot of serious issues in this story - abuse, incest, rape and drugs which the author with her clinical experiences covers in a careful and thoughtful manner. The beautiful setting of Hawaii and its element of island isolation along with information about Gujarati culture offer insights into the dysfunctional Pate

This book was hard to read. Hard to see a girl live through so much pain.
