I like the idea behind psychic evacuation, and found this to be compelling reading with well-drawn characters. I actually had to go look up psychic evacuation online, to see whether there was a website, like the book described (there's not). It's pretty good to have thought of a new twist on the basic body-swapping story, since it's been so over-done. The risk that Alex (in Philip's body) was willing to take at the end was pretty crazy, but made sense in the context of the story. I liked the end

The premise of the book was really interesting, and it certainly made me think. If I suddenly woke up in someone else's body and had to live life as them, how would I react? Would I eventually be able to let go of everything from the past and start over, or would I always be trying to get back to it? A Canadian author, Maureen Garvie wrote a similar story in "Amy by Any Other Name", but in this case, two girls switched places, and were aware of each other.

Clarinet chess playing Alex wakes up to find himself in the body of Athletic popular Flip, hundreds of miles away from his home. Somehow they have switched bodies (spoiler - after, Alex learns, he has been in an accident/is in a coma). Alex tries to explain what's happened to him but no one believes him. He has to manage all of Flip's relationships (family, girls etc) while not knowing much about Flip. He wants to return to his own body.

A well written, frighteningly real story about what it is like to walk a mile in someone else's shoes--literally. A bit too linear for me, might have been interesting to get both boys' POV, but at the same time, the claustrophobic storytelling was eerily effective.

The book had a good idea, but I had a hard time with the plodding plot. How many ways did the author have to tell us that Alex was uncomfortable in Phillip's body?

Adult author Bedford comes up with an interesting premise in this young adult novel, a teenager wakes up in the body of another 15-year-old boy and he's the only one that knows it, but ultimately it's not enough to sustain interest.
