This is a historical novel that has great appeal to both teens and adults. The writing is sharp and poignant, the characters unforgettable. The story is set in Zimbabwe, at the beginning of the presidency of Robert Mugabe. Whites who remain in Zimbabwe hope that Mugabe will promote tolerance between whites and blacks, but great racial tension remains, as exemplified by the attitudes of boys in a private prep school in Zimbabwe.
