I don't know exactly how to judge historical fiction about the Romanovos anymore. I have read so much non-fiction about the Russian Royal family that when I read historical fiction like this novel, I worry that my background information impairs the flow of the story. For example, when the daughters are wondering about the public's view of Rasputin, it is never quite explained in the story.
