After escaping the confined world of her previous life, Lena struggles to fit into the hardscrabble existence of the Invalids, regaining the strength lost in her flight, and always, missing Alex who opened her eyes to the craziness of trying to live without love. In back and forth chapters, Oliver tells Lena's story from the time of her internship with the Invalids to some sort of resistance mission within a post-apocalyptic NYC. While at first this device was off-putting, it's a testament to Ol

I liked this sequel much better than Delirium. For one thing, I felt like Lena was coming into her own as a person. She learned to question her society in the first book, and here we see her dealing with the aftermath of that, and of her decision to leave for the Wilds. The changes in setting allow Oliver to flesh out her dystopian world - we see a greater variety of characters and opinions and ways of dealing with the dominant society. ...more

Love is a curse, which everyone gets a cure for when they reach age 16. Alex, like her Mother before her has become ‘infected’ and has fallen in love, thus must flee and live as a refugee. Those ‘cured’ are detached from passion, but also from sympathy. She hooks up with one of the leaders of the opposition, which is called DFA or Delirium Free America. A survival story, until a surprise ending tells the reader a third book is next and a love triangle is now front and center.

Fans of Delirium who are anxious to discover the fate of Alex will have to wait until the third book. This book promises a great deal of heartbreaking non stop action and opens a long triangle. Fans of the Hunger Games will love this readalike with the strong character of Lena in another oppressive society with another love triangle. But one must wait for the last in the trilogy, Requiem, for the final outcome.

Excellent sequel to Delirium, following Lena after she successfully crosses out of "civilization" and into the Wilds, but without her beloved Alex. The hard life they lead, and then the undercover life she goes into in NYC alternate, and create an interesting tension.

Even though I didn't love this as much as the first in the series, I'm still putting it on my "favorites" shelf because this is a favorite series for sure. I enjoyed the world-building and though I KNEW what was coming in the end, I can't wait for the third book to see how it REALLY ends.

Didn't enjoy this as much as the first book. Maybe it was all the "then" and "now" that didn't work for me. Did love the twist at the end and can't wait to dive into the third book. Lena has some tough decisions ahead of her.

Might change that to 4 after #3. I just can't get over the last page! Took me half the novel to get into the then and now chapter switches. But of course, I am going to read #3 and the Hana ebook.

Lauren Oliver avoids the "bridge book syndrome" by keeping the 2nd book in the series fresh and exciting.
