I just adored this. It was funny and touching and beautiful.
Wonderful story of two outsider boys who become friends, endure bullying and grow closer. A beautiful story of first love, and being different than those around you, and father-son relationships, and a story about self-discovery. Nice insights into Latino culture as well. Very well written.
3.75 The beginning was really slow for me and I would have stopped but I'm reading it as part of a Mock Printz book club so I kept going. Thank goodness I kept going - it really took off.

A simply-written, beautiful, and smart book about love, friendship, family, and growing up. Especially great for "all the boys" -- or anyone, really -- "who've had to learn to play by different rules."
