Black Helicopters is a messed up little story, and while it's imperfect, it's worth the read.
It's reasonably obvious from the synopsis that Woolston’s novel is about a suicide bomber, but that only touches the surface of the story. It's about conspiracy theorists. To me, it was also about how strongly a person's upbringing shapes them and how deeply embedded values that are taught at a young age can become. Troubling and fascinating. Still mulling it over.

I read this in one sitting. Woolston brilliantly creates a first-person narrative that allows the reader to understand how a domestic terrorist is born. Very strong writing and fascinating character development. Not for the faint of heart. I think the Printz committee will at least be taking a long look at this.
Really dark and depressing, and it's compelling reading, but I guess I'm not altogether glad that I kept reading it. I didn't really get the loose community that Valley is a part of (except that it's some kind of paranoid fringe community), and I had no idea that communities like this would think to use suicide bombers in the US.
