The blurbies by Wasserman's author friends on the back of the book are spot on, so you can read those and then read this book. It's horror heavily influenced by Stephen King (in absolutely the best way). I loved the characters and their relationships - often terrifying, heart-breaking, even romantic. ...more

If you are the type of person who loves books like "The Plague" or "Lord of the Flies", the kind that really delve into the question of if evil can be created or if it's inherent and barely contained in all of us, I HIGHLY recommend "The Waking Dark."

Why would ordinary folks in small town Oleander, Kansas suddenly snap? The Killing Day would be only the start of this town's trouble. To come: tornado, quarantine, zealotry, vigilante justice, and a pyre in the center of town. Seething with rage, violence, and evil, this is a strong Stephen King readalike for horror fans. Excellent audio production. ...more

An interesting story with many deaths, destruction and evil intentions. The characters of Daniel, Cass, Ellie and Jule made you keep reading the story.

Too freaking scary for me, but if you like dark and atmospheric and tightly plotted books and also can handle horror you will love this. It's very well done. Just not a book I can handle! ...more
