I listened to this amazing book on audio and David Levithan narrates it. Wonderful to hear the book with his voice. Memorable.

I am a character reader and David Levithan can be such a concept writer that I don't quite connect to about half of his books (even though I always really want to!). This is one of them. The concept is great, and some of the writing was wonderful but it's just so removed from the characters, I felt like I didn't get to know any of them.
The one character I did eventually end up connecting with was the collective gay men's chorus. I think this connection was made more my me associating the narrati ...more

I had super high hopes for this book as 'Every Day' was one of my favorite titles from last year. I was intrigued to see what Levithan would come out with next.
This book was a great read and was unlike any YA I’ve read. The book only takes place over the span of a few days, but it manages to show really deep and important issues. The book is fast paced, and it was hard for me to put down because I just really wanted to see if Harry and Craig would succeed. There are other plotlines with differen ...more

Brilliant, heart-breaking, and so very important.

The story revolves around two ex-boyfriends who are going for a world record in kissing: more than 32 long hours worth. Surrounding them are the acquaintance who recently was gay bashed, two boys who have just met at a small town queer prom, two boys in a comfortable relationship, and one boy who hasn't found his place yet. Reflecting on the stories unfolding as well as the legacy of a generation past, is the collective 'we' of the gay men lost to AIDS, the 'fairy goduncles' watching it all. Tog

I love David Levithan in such a dedicated and unconditional way. This was not my favorite of his, as it felt like a bit of a public service announcement at times. I do appreciate the creative and different types of techniques for narration Levithan uses in some of his works. In this one, the 'we' are an omnipresent group of gay men from an earlier and more difficult place in time. These men, many of whom died of AIDS, watch several young gay boys in high school. Two o these, which the story focu

The cover has been controversial in schools. I love most of Levithan's books, and like this one, but not as much as some of his others. Probably 3 1/2 stars, and I'm rounding up.
