I was never a fan of White's other children's semi-fantasy novels, but for some reason this one grabbed me almost from the start.
I loved the idea that swans are fully intelligent, but have no way of conveying that to people, under normal circumstances. I also enjoyed the idea that Louis's "impairment" became an incentive to do something that no swan had ever done before.
