This one took me a few pages to get into, but once it got rolling the story was one I couldn't put down. I didn't care for the cover, which was oddly cartoony.
Ned and his twin brother did a dumb thing as kids, and as a result the twin died, and Ned was only saved by the intervention of his mother and some very odd magical powers under her supervision. He came out of the incident with problems that made the villagers think she must have saved the wrong boy.
