I recently re-read this classic, and my reaction to it was almost as jarred as the first time. Because the book is so short, the heartbreak doesn't have time to sneak up on the reader...it just sort of mugs you and runs away.
Still, it's brilliant and riveting. My only reason for not giving it a fifth star was that the short length prevents exploring the characters and the setting, and I found that a tiny bit disappointing. ...more
