What Members Thought

I read this recently with a group of almost 4th grade girls. It was interesting to see their reactions. Though they either liked it or seemed neutral about the story, they had really paid attention to the story and the characters and we have a lovely discussion. Most admitted to wanting more adventure or action, but still seemed to get something from the book.

I liked this story, but I didn't love it, for a couple of reasons. One is that the Very Interesting Boy just wasn't. He was a nice kid from a rich-but-broken home, with a domineering mother who desperately wanted him to be something he wasn't. Compared to the Penderwick girls, his personality seemed rather bland.
