Read in bits and pieces--a chapter here, a page there--over the course of eight months or so. All in all, pretty neat stuff, but it got a bit repetitious and rambling; Diamond didn't need to reiterate the core theory (that the course of human societies is powerfully influenced by geographical and resource realities) nearly as many times as he did. ...more
