I don't remember a ton about this book even though I read it awhile back. I'm glad I reread it again so I got familiar with everyone.
I loved the cliffhanger at the end of this book. I think when I read it the first time I might have been in a big stressful move. I loved the addition of Cress and Carswell Thorne. I loves Thornes humor so much and can't wait to move onto Winter, which I have never read yet.
We just met Winter at the end of this book and she's with Scarlet on Luna.

I really hate waiting for the sequels of books like this one.
A lot of interesting characters, almost non-stop action, a world that draws you in and a story that makes you feel like a part of the company facing the overwhelming odds.
I liked Cress a lot more than Scarlet, and Thorne was delightfully charming. The two very quickly grow on you and make a great couple, balanced and well suited.

Oftentimes, the next to last book in a series can feel simply like a setup for the final book. Not much happens or what does happen is half explained and you're clearly meant to wait for all the answers in the final book. Not so here. While Meyer clearly and definitely lays the groundwork for Winter (hello Princess Winter/Snow White!), this book furthers the plot in general and greatly adds to the overall series and the Lunar Chronicles universe at large. I would've liked to see Cress grow a backbone. It seems like in every scene she's in she's either crying or hiding because she's scared. I get that after being locked up for 7 years she'd be overwhelmed but maybe in the next book?

3.5 stars for book. 2.75 stars for 1st half because Cress is so helpless and silly, but 4 stars for end for great plan and execution and twists. Just keep reading the slow beginning and it will get better in the end.
Likes:
* Pretty good 2nd half - stick with it

Love, love, love this series. The overall arc of the story continues as she adds each fairytale reincarnation and I couldn't be happier (except to hope for all the resolutions I want in the final installment, namely 4 HEAs *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*).
