I have been looking forward to Smiley's book for a long while. Sadly, it was pretty ho hum. I think I am tired of the fanical and the beytral on the part of the villiians and would like more time on the romance.
It is hard to like the heroine who has such awful taste in a fiancee. I also now who did "it" right away and can't help but think that everyone would have been much more catious.

Well, that was quite a start to a New Species romance! I thought every possible first meeting between a couple in this series had been covered. Boy, was I ever wrong! And even though it happened within the first few pages, I won't spoil it for you. The only problem with this quick initial meeting is that it left a heck a lot of pages to fill in the story. And Smiley and Vanni are positively gooey together, so truthfully there was pretty much zero tension between them....

First paragraph: “Stop embarrassing me.” Carl hissed the words, glancing around to make sure he couldn’t be overheard by anyone except his target. “My father said you’re surly. It reflects badly on him. I just got my ass chewed out. Keep smiling and nod, Vanni. He also said you were rude to a journalist.”

3.5/5 Probably not my favorite New Species books. Not sure why I think I just expected a little more of Smiley's easy goes behavior and he just didn't act like himself. But this is one of my favorite PNR series so it was still way better than anything else I have read lately!!!!
