If I hadn't just read the previous two books to get ready for this one, I'd be reading the whole series over again just to get to this one. Very good!
I like the wrapping up of one story arc so we can move onto the next. Nice work, Ms McGuire.

Ouch, this review hurts to write! I love Seanan McGuire and her October Daye series is one of my absolute favorites. Unfortunately, this installment just didn't do it for me. The Winter Long had a lot of hype behind it and Seanan even wrote in the forward that it was the first book to be plotted beforehand -- the book all the previous books were leading up to... and then there's that mysterious blurb... You'd think this would be the most awesomesauce, blow-your-mind story but for me it just fizz

It's been a few years since I read the previous book in the series, and while I'd liked it, I'd been hesitating to read this for some reason. Turns out I shouldn't have been, since it was a pretty great addition to the series and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Toby, who has officially earned the title of hero, runs herself rugged once again, trying to right wrongs and help save her loved ones, even if that means a lot of hardship and pain for her, considering that she's almost always in way over her he ...more

It took me forever to read this. It's not the book's fault. Well, perhaps it is a teensy bit, since as usual Toby spent a fair amount of time complaining that she had to go do something...without having the foggiest idea of what that something needed to be. That constant state of reacting, rather than planning or thinking, has always posed a problem for me. Pair it with a reading slump causing my attention span to dwindle down to naught and here we are.

Once again October shows how immature she is. She knows how important promises are to the fae and she's decided the promise isn't as important as her knowing what it is. Since she knows that she doesn't know, how can she make that call? How can she talk to Sylvester that way?
I hate how the author keeps revealing things that make us dislike or hate people we've loved throughout the series such as the relationship with Luna. There's so much betrayal and so many lies in these books.

I'm shocked it took me so long to read this. I had forgotten how compulsively readable these books are once you start them. Action & momentum.

One of the best in the series. It explained a lot but not all.
