Another crazy adventure for Harry Dresden, who is once again in the middle of a mess.

Strange things are happening, ghosts are causing more trouble than usual and a weird being is targeting Harry and his friends.

Harry surpasses his limits again and again while trying to face the monsters that are threatening the people close to him and he simply refuses to back down, even when the odds are against him.

That means that he gets his ass kicked a lot, uses every ounce of energy he has until he's barel

I finally remembered why I dropped the series with this book the first time around. I just couldn't handle everybody's stupidity, especially Harry's and Susan's. Harry was brash where he should have stood down (see the first encounter with Kyle and his sister) and meek where he should have been decisive (see the incident with Agatha Hagglethorne). And Susan, journalist or not, when a wizard tells you vampires are dangerouns, you FRICKIN' LISTEN! God, I got so, so angry at both of them because ha ...more

Grave Peril, book three of The Dresden Files, is a whirlwind of action and emotion. It's a vast improvement over the first two of the series, and shows Butcher adeptly flexing his talent in a world he's now comfortable with.

The Big Bad of the piece is chilling in a primal way, drawing on our instinctual fear of the dark and the horror of nightmares made real. This time, Harry's battle strips him raw, flooding the reader with tension and dread, not just for the lives of Harry and his friends, but

3.5 stars. 4 for action and new characters, 3 for confusing plot. Action packed story about Harry trying to figure out who is torturing ghosts and wreaking magical havoc.

Jim Butcher sure found his voice in the Dresden books. I love the balance of action, detective work, humor and magical abilities. Butcher thinks up some extremely far fetched but supernaturally plausible scenarios that Dresden is perfect for. Someone they are always believable too. Dresden continues to be an amazing character his dichotomy of morals and brutality when needed fascinates me. The uniqueness and creativeness of Butcher's characters make the series superb.

Another book that I can't quite give the full 4 stars. I liked this book a little less than the second, but I still found it pretty satisfying. I like the introduction (or lack thereof) of Michael. He's a really interesting and different character and it seems like he will be a good counterpoint to Harry. I have to say one thing about this book bothered me, and it might make me seem cold hearted, but what can you do? (view spoiler) ...more
