Vicky was a hoot. She loved polar bears and although fairly timid (she faints a lot), she took a trip to the Artic hoping to see one. But she keeps having "accidents" and being saved by a polar bear and then a hot, naked guy.
Gene just wants to drown his sorrows, but after being run into by Vicky, his interest is aroused. He wants to keep her safe from the people after her and the ones after him. Brody tracks them down and wants Gene to come back to Kodiak Point.

It's been two years since I read book 2 in this series, so it took me a minute to catch up on Gene's backstory. But, once I did, his reaction to Vicki was even more touching. Vicki is a trip - she faints at the drop of a hat when we first meet her. The only problem for me ... I didn't exactly fall for this couple. Individually, I like both characters. Too much narration and not enough dialogue, especially since I'm supposed to believe that these two characters fell in love with one another.
This could have been so much more. We have a woman who has dealt with abuse from her deceased spouse and father, plus a man who suffers from PTSD. That in itself should have made for a better plot point, but no.
