I really enjoyed this book. I’m docking half a star because of some issues I had, examples follow the main part of the review.
(BTW, the cover isn’t what she looks like. She has long hair and decidedly isn’t at all goth. She also doesn’t smoke and is really short and tiny. Judging by the size of the toilet she’s sitting on, the woman on the cover is not small.)
The author did a good job of explaining what happened in the previous book but as she went along so it wasn’t some tedious recap ...more

Update for 2018 reread: I finished this one on the reread which is more than I can say for my first attempt four years ago. Having finished the book now I can say that it was ok. Not great, but ok. I think Rowland tried to introduce too much conflict in this book. Rather than gradually discover areas of conflict we get zombie factions, zombie soldiers, secret experiments, zombie mafia, etc...all dumped on us within 100 pages. I wanted to finish it so I could try to move on in the series...with t

The pace was slower than the first book. I must admit that I was not as invested but the last third got me back on track. Angel knows herself and her self worth, doing something to improve herself instead of wallowing in misery or self pity, it is why I will be waiting for the next book.
