If I had to make up a sub-title for this book, it would be “When the Planet Strikes Back!” Even though, I knew this was were the plot was going, it was terrible to behold. At the same time, the book overall wasn't very exciting. There were too many new people, too much administrative stuff and Meg's role was too small. I kept hoping for the good parts to start and they never materialized.

I wish I could have liked this as much as I did the books leading up to it, but I'm a big fan of character development. I just don't feel like the characters moved forward too much in this book. Lots of plot action, though.

I am so glad this series got extended again because I cannot get enough of it. Humans learn some hard lessons in this book and there are very serious consequences for their stupidity. I was glad to see the HFL take a beating. I love the Others more than humans anyway. It was a bold choice to introduce so many new characters in book 4, but I love Twyla and Jesse so much that I am forgiving. I am very anxious to see how Meg and Simon deal with their feelings and how the various settlements will ge

Slowest. Romance. Ever.
Sometimes Meg is so childlike it's creepy that they're in love but other times it's like come on, people do it already. She also is sometimes smart but sometimes an idiot. For how long she's been in the courtyard, she should be a little bit more astute about behavior and interpreting behavior and subtleties then she is.
Major changes in this one so I can imagine that it's the end of the series but I hope not. I really love how unusual this world is. I love how humans aren't ...more

Once things actually started happening, the story got really good. I found the romance at the end a bit forced, but we're dealing with two very awkward folks so I'll give them a pass.

Book one and two were full of Simon and Meg! I missed them in this book just like the last book. They are my favorite characters whether they interact together or with others. I was disappointed with this book. I do not enjoy the parts with the officers at all. To be honest I skimmed a lot of this book and did not miss anything. It felt like there was a lot of stories in one. A lot of unnecessary stories.
