3 stars - Paranormal Romance

I'm so conflicted with this review because there were definitely some extremely disappointing, WTF moments worthy of a 1-star review and numerous characters and events that royally pissed me off. It's a real shame Ward's doing such a disservice to her loyal readers/fans by betraying some of the intrinsic principles of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And OMG, Ward's extreme rambling, irrelevant details, and excessive minutiae drove me nuts!

The Chosen is Xcor and Layla's book yet, like many others in the series, time is spent on a couple of WTH storylines. I was happy to learn more about Xcor, who you could tell had a horrible past and deserved a HEA. Layla definitely comes into her own; no longer wishing to be called The Chosen, she's learning who she is as a woman.

She was Chosen no more ... She was a mahmen. She was a lover. She was a proud female, a strong female, a female who knew right from wrong, family from stranger, good from evil.

And, the best O.o moment was learning that (view spoiler)

I continue to have a major love/hate relationship with this series. This wasn't one of my favorites for many reasons mentioned above. I don't think it will ever be what it was in the beginning, which is sad, but I'm invested so I'll continue on. (Rating: ✮✮½) ...more

So, I regret that OCD is making me stick around to finish this series. In any case, here are the highlights in case you want to skip it:

We get to see the Band of Brothers formally added to the BDB army in this installment. They also move into the King's mansion.

Lassiter is now the official vampire deity and the Scribe Virgin or whatever she's called is MIA.

Xcor and Layla are now an item.

Something's wrong between Doc Jane and Vishous.

And that's it! ...more
