Iron and Magic on Books On Track
The story of Hugh d'Ambray, Preceptor of the Iron Dogs and former Warlord of Roland, aka Kate's father. It started out as an April Fool's day joke, but people actually wanted to read his story, so the authorlords obliged.
First, I have to give them props for managing to redeem a character who had nearly no redeeming qualities before. I was more than a little hesitant to read his story, since I didn't know if that was possible after all the shit he'd done. In that t ...more

I must be the lone freak on this site, but I read Iron and Magic as a stand alone. Yup, I've never read a Kate Daniels book (yet), but I have heard of them and they've been meaning to get on my TBR pile for a while now.

Great addition to the world, loved seeing things from the other side and the Elara-Hugh matchup was good. Enjoyed the elephant resolution, and the use of ASL. Lots of new interesting characters too, will be excited to see where this series goes.

Ilona Andrews is on my auto-buy list, but my enthusiasm for this story was a bit weak. More fool me. These two could make a great story out of my grocery list. I won't doubt them again and really looking forward to more of the story. I'm also dying to hear the audiobook when released. Renee does a great job on the other series and I have high hopes for this one as well.

Not my favorite. I was bored for most of the book and just didn’t get into the enemies-to-lovers trope for these two. No chemistry for me. But it was enjoyable to be back in this world even without Kate and Curran. It makes me want to go back and read the last few books in that series.
