Wow. This was a really fun new fantasy that I just could not put down.

The pacing was break-neck. And by that I mean that the plot of this book could easily spread across two books in the series. I am shocked at how much we got through, because I didn't expect what happened in the end of this book to happen until a bit further down the road.

I knew nothing about this book or about this author's writing and one chapter in and I was hooked. She is an amazing writer and I loved this book from the first chapter. The author's writing just flows and the magic and world building is incredible. The magic is not complicated. Really enjoyed this story and am excited for book 2. I like Winter and this so was rooting for the Winter Queen regardless:) Not that into the gladiator aspect, and a bit odd that someone completely untrained in magic can figure it out in the middle of a fight to the death with a strong and experienced magic user but enjoyed reading anyway.
