My 3 star rating is based on my enjoyment of the story not on how good it actually is. The problem for me is that I saw "Stand by Me" at least 50 times in my youth, and the screenplay was clearly so close to the story, that it made for a less enjoyable reading experience.

As I was reading this book I realized this is the book that Stand by me is based off of. I enjoyed this book.
