It's been quite a few years since I read the first book of the series, and what I remember most about it is not really liking Gin and not feeling much of an inclination to continue the series. I thought it's been long enough that I might have a different opinion now, so I decided to give this series another chance.

Gin is a strong character, with her own set of rules and flexible morals, evidenced by the fact that she's not particularly guilty about having assassinated a number of people in her c It's been quite a few years since I read the first book of the series, and what I remember most about it is not really liking Gin and not feeling much of an inclination to continue the series. I thought it's been long enough that I might have a different opinion now, so I decided to give this series another chance.

Gin is a strong character, with her own set of rules and flexible morals, evidenced by the fact that she's not particularly guilty about having assassinated a number of people in her career as the Spider.

This is the major issue between her and Donovan, the detective she's got a thing for, and things between them are as tense as ever, when their paths cross again.

Gin has decided to help Violet, a college girl who had been trying to contact her late mentor, Fletcher, aka the Tinman. Violet's grandfather, who used to be best friends with Fletcher once upon a time, was being harassed by a mine owner who wanted his land.

Determined to help them in an effort to see that other side of her mentor that she never knew existed, Gin finds herself in an investigation that brings her at odds with a number of powerful people.

A new suitor has entered the picture in the form of the intriguing Owen, whom I already like a lot more than I ever did Donovan.

While I'm still not sure whether I like Gin as a character, I am curious to read more about her adventures that continue in Venom next.

Excellent, like the first one. Here are some of my random thoughts, since my brain matter is currenlty scrambled: Lots of needless repetition on this one, but I've heard that it goes away as the series progresses. I love the moral ambiguity of Gin Blanco. I love that she refers to the cops as "the po-po." I hate the judgmental crap that Donovan Cain pulls. The side characters - Finn, Sophia, Jo Jo - are awesome. Owen Grayson's character is intriguing, but a little too 'in-your-face' before the d ...more

I really don't want to wait for the next book in this series. The storyline evolved enough to keep me wishing it was September for the next installment. Gin, the lovely Spider assassin, proves yet again that she is not a girl to be messed with. Events in this book, without giving too much away, lead me to believe that the next book (hopefully books) will be even better. Relationships occur in this one that are very unexpected- and I'm wondering if thing will come full circle with Mab. Seems like ...more

I read the first book in this series and didn't love it, but I have a bunch of GR friends who really like these, so I figured I'd give the 2nd one a go. Plus, I already own it--I had bought the first two books at the same time.

And still, I'm not a fan. There's just something missing for me. It's not the action--there's bunches, and it's fast-paced and well written. I's the characters. I'm a character-driven reader--for me to love a book/series, I need to love the characters. And I really don't c ...more

For the most part I really enjoyed this book. I kind of got a little frustrated with it in the middle, but the conclusion more than made up for that.

A couple of things annoyed me about the first book and this one. I got sick of hearing 'gold on grey' and 'clean soapy scent'.

DNF in 2011. Restarted today and enjoyed it this time round. Romance element wasn’t great but story was engaging, characters interesting and the mysteries ahead are intriguing.
