Infinity (Chronicles of Nick, #1) in SOS: Serious Overload of Series

I think I might give Kenyon's PNR a chance, but I'm not too keen on her YA writing with this offering. Nick Gautier is a freshmen in high school (a prestigious one where he has a scholarship, I think), and he's about to discover a world he's never thought possible, complete with zombies, demons, and mythic gods. It's his destiny he needs to claim, or will he live long enough to even understand?

The one thing that really almost stopped me from reading this one was the dialogue. Simply unbelievable I think I might give Kenyon's PNR a chance, but I'm not too keen on her YA writing with this offering. The one thing that really almost stopped me from reading this one was the dialogue. Simply unbelievable for the characters, plus a lot of their teenage antics were just too cliched. Everyone at school is against Nick because he's the poor kid amongst the elite, and no one, not even the principal likes him. Why? I guess it's because he's poor, but there's really no other reason as to why the faculty would be against him, too. Bummer…Then there's his mother, a whole 'nother can of worms that I don't really want to get into for fear of ranting into infinity (lol, look at me making a pun). She's 28-yrs old, she's been doing the whole single-parenting thing for 14 years, yet she sounds like a crazy lady that needs to be talked down from constantly going into hysterics.

That's not even touching on the main plot! Which was actually kind of interesting if we could have avoided getting mired in Kenyon's idea of Teenagerland. I won't go into detail for fear of spoiling anything, but those familiar with her adult series should feel right at home and probably even get a laugh or two at seeing familiar faces. I might read the second one, but I was disappointed with this one.

Sidebar- Just a couple Huh? moments:
At one point Nick wants to be able to take an aspirin for an entirely plausible reason, but can't bring any to school because he thinks they would kick him out because of their strict no drug policy. Ever heard of a doctor's note or giving the meds to your school nurse???

What 14-yr old boy thinks: "I'm whipped and I'm not even claimed yet" in relation to a girl he has a crush on??? ...more

3.5 stars. The backstory of how Nick became Kyrian's squire. Craziness when a bunch of the high school football team turn into living zombies. Whenever I thought Nick was too sarcastic and reckless, I reminded myself that he was a 14 year old male with more testosterone than sense and that this was a YA book. I listened to this book and would not have been as entertained if I had to read all the slow parts.

The very long night of craziness was worth waiting for, so don't give up before the protra 3.5 stars. The backstory of how Nick became Kyrian's squire. Craziness when a bunch of the high school football team turn into living zombies. Whenever I thought Nick was too sarcastic and reckless, I reminded myself that he was a 14 year old male with more testosterone than sense and that this was a YA book. I listened to this book and would not have been as entertained if I had to read all the slow parts.

The very long night of craziness was worth waiting for, so don't give up before the protracted fight scene. Bubba, the owner of the gun/weapon store and his partner/sidekick Mark were fantastic characters. (view spoiler) The loyalties of the vast array of characters was constantly surprising me.

Liked Nick, the main character, a lot - he's a bit of a teenager at times, but what else can you expect from a 14 year old boy? I didnt have a problem with the zombies either, evils of computer games... I have read a couple of the Dark Hunter books but couldn't remember much of the world, but that wasnt that big a problem since Nick doesnt know any of that either. I like Kyrian a fair bit, and Nicks mum and Bubba... okay so most of the major characters actually :) Will definitely be picking up t ...more

It's a YA book but don't feel like it because of the bad language inside. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not prude or anything. But i just want children's book to be decent. Anyway the story is about nick,Kyrian's paige in Dark Hunter series. The story is a bit weird, it's about zombie and all characters in DH pop up now and then. I didnt really follow the series so I was a bit disoriented. In all, it is a 'just okay' book. Nothing in it that can make you want to pick it up again after finishing it ...more
