Just because you set the story in the South and call them blood incubus instead of vampire, this doesn't a new story make. Ethan is criticized for being more teenage girl than teenage boy and that is actually what I like best about him. But regardless of the veiled similarities to other paranormal books, this book starts out very slow again (while that is forgivable to set the scene in a first book, it is just boring in a second book) and I don't really like the characters (except Link and Lucil

I like this one better than the 1st book. It's not contains a lot of mystery compared the 1st book, but at least it packed bit more actions and not too much weepy-dingy emotional things. The plot is smoother and moderate paced, and finally the main characters showed more backbone, not always complained about the unfairness of the world although Ethan still depending on other people to save him (Yah...what do you expect from a mortal vs supernatural beings?). This is one of those series that I could take or leave. I put this down after the first few pages because the tone of it seems to bother me somehow. Maybe I just can't relate to the guy POV as much. I was sick though and decided to plow through and I "liked" it but, it just doesn't resonate with me. I don't hate it but I don't grow fond of the characters and they don't grab hold of my heart.

I really enjoyed the audiobook production of Beautiful Creatures but after listening to 20 minutes of this book, I realized I have no interest whatsoever in finding out what happens next.
