Awesome. So many cool characters: Maxine, Grant, Oturu, The Meddling Man, Tracker, Byron, Sarai... I loved Grant and his relationship with Maxine - but I did feel like I was missing something, a prequel that would tell how those two met, how they fell in love... Did I miss a book or a short novel that came before? Nonetheless, I enjoyed it tremendously! Some parts were quite confusing but I think that everything will be explained later on, in upcoming books.

I couldn't get into this book so I had to set it aside so I can read other books.
I do think the main character is interesting, just there is so much of the story that is left out that you are reading the book wondering about things that are not answered..
I think the story has potential and it might get better toward the end but I didn't finish so I can't say.
Once I pick it back up and finish it I will edit my review with my final thoughts. ...more

This is a great, complex novel. The prose is beautiful and the descriptions just flow. I love it. I loved all the world-building and the mythology Marjorie Liu created. Maxine herself is a great character, troubled and scarred but still hopeful. The boys are hilarious, tender, and fearsome at the same time. I love them. Grant is a good counter-balance to Maxine. I can't wait to see where this series goes.
