It's always sad to have a series end because as I reader I feel like I build a relationship of sorts with the characters and a level of comfort in knowing what to expect from the author. I had a shaky start with the Shifters series, I bought books 1-3 all at once on the strength of recommendations (and impulse) only to find Faythe incredibly annoying in Stray. This is a series I love a lot but in one particular aspect, I very much dislike. I loved the authors writing style and the way the storyline unfolded. It is just the kind I like, with a story that develops throughout the series and a main heroine whose love life we follow. It should have been just perfect for me and it was, up until the rival lover took over the last 3 books. The way she went for the rival and betrayed the love of her life was not believable and I grew very tired of the rival. T ...more

A brilliant end to one of my favorite series. Vincent has never once disappointed in this series and there was a lot of expectation and pressure on her to write a fitting end for Faythe - and I think she did just that. Never one to share away from heartbreaking situations and consequences, this one had me in tears on numerous occasions as the realities of the war hit home and no one was safe. I cannot justify it without spoilers, and don't get me wrong, there were some pretty awesome things about this final installment. The foremost being that Faythe grows into the person that I knew she could be while not sacrificing who she was throughout the series. That's about the best ringing endorsement I can give this series and seeing that transformation has been great.

Yet with the good, it is definitely balanced (and out-weighed) by the b The more I think about this one, the less I like it. Yet with the good, it is definitely balanced (and out-weighed) by the bad. I get that this series is about Faythe's journey to Alpha, but the triangle between her, Jace, and Marc has been in the works since the very beginning, so the build-up for the resolution has been really high. For all that Faythe has grown she really doesn't choose between Marc and Jace, the decision is made for her, imo. I didn't feel like it happened organically for all the characters involved.

Then there's all this pent up grief and guilt that's never really addressed in a satisfactory way, but left hanging because of the action-packed grand finale. And the actual meat of the story (Faythe's struggle to be accepted as Alpha), which was sidetracked by a very detailed, but entirely unnecessary reunion with the Thunderbirds. True they don't use cell phones and Faythe has to fly out there, but come on, multiple chapters based on that one meeting (and if it wasn't actually many chapters, it definitely felt that way)? I was over the Thunderbirds after the last book, which btw, felt like a total filler book in the series. For them to take up so much of the story was a bit annoying.

Then the end-the last few pages literally- felt like a haphazard jumble of emotions (even if it's truly how Faythe felt at the moment) and sentiments. Mainly that maybe things are just starting and this is one small step for Faythe, but one large step for werepanter-kind. If that's where she wanted to leave it, then she should have made this the second or third in the series instead of the last. There's a lot of the 'feeling' of success, but little action to back it up at all.

Overall, although this was a mildly satisfying (and inevitable) conclusion for Faythe and her Pack, it left much, MUCH to be desired. What a bummer… ...more

This book was emotional and action packed but in the end I really wasn't happy with the way it ended. Faythe went on and on all throughout the book saying she loved Jace but in the end their was NO emotion when she just gives him up. Heck he even gave up without a fight. It just didn't sit well with me. I am a huge Jace fan but I knew she would end up Marc (ugh). I just thought their would be alot more emotion involved when it happened. I would have also love to see what happens with the council ...more

Really? This is the end? No more? I'm having a hard time understanding why to stop the series here. There was a great resolution to one major issue, but there is a lot of other stuff that could still happen and then I think it would be great to follow them further. However, I guess all things must come to an end, and overall I'm very happy with this series ...more

Bitter sweet read. I loved the action pace of this book and there was definitely a sad element to this one, like the last one. Unfortunately now that Faythe is grown up enough to handle the Pride and the rest of the duties the series end.

Really enjoyed this finale.
Had moist eyes for several pages. In the end I was OK with her partner choice. Hope the author writes something about our non chosen lover.
