I really enjoyed this book - it only took me two days to read it. The writing was definitely better in this book than the first. The only reason that I didn't give it 5 stars was because of a few things that irritated me throughout the book - sometimes there was more detail than anyone really cared about (like when Nora was getting dressed and what she was wearing; or when Vee keeps getting pulled into a relationship with boys who are trying to kill Nora, or that Vee gets upset ...more

It took me a long time to read this book and I have no clue why, All the things I loved about Hush, Hush were present in this book. Great writing, a good story, and great characters. I do want to say though that I wanted to kick Nora, how could she break up with Patch?!? Once that happened we still saw Patch but he was more on the sideline. I had enjoyed Hush, Hush despite what I thought were some flaws in characterisation, sadly I feel that those issues were compounded in Crescendo and I was rolling my eyes every other page.
For me, Nora was endlessly angsty with absurd mood swings. Both her thoughts and her behaviour were irrational most of the time, she seemed unable to complete a coherent thought, jumping to silly conclusions and ignoring common sense. Nora has survived the attempts on her life and her boyfriend Patch is now her guardian angel. Despite his new role, Patch seems to be acting anything but angelic being more mysterious than usual and spending time with Marcie Millar who has tormented Nora for years. But when an old family friend Scott Parnell moves back to town, Nora realises something is off with him and finds herself drawn even deeper into the angelic/Nephilim worlds.

This is the second book in the Hush, Hush series (after Hush, Nora has survived the attempts on her life and her boyfriend Patch is now her guardian angel. Despite his new role, Patch seems to be acting anything but angelic being more mysterious than usual and spending time with Marcie Millar who has tormented Nora for years. But when an old family friend Scott Parnell moves back to town, Nora realises something is off with him and finds herself drawn even deeper into the angelic/Nephilim worlds.

This is the second book in the Hush, Hush series (after Hush, Hush unsurprisingly) and continues in the same incredible vein as the first. Nora and Patch are together now, but neither realises how many skeletons there are in the other's closet. Nora's Nephilim bloodline is more complex than she realised, and Patch starts acting strangely so their brief period of happiness soon becomes something more complex.

The plot is incredible, in fact the only thing keeping this book from a flawless score are the minor similarities with New Moon although this book goes in a completely different direction. The pacing is brilliant, and the mix of romance and mystery is kept from the first book with Nora ending up in even more danger than before.

Marcie Millar gets a lot more plot development and now instead of being just a bully, she has evolved into a far more complex (although not much nicer) character. Vee also gets a lot of page time as she is now dating Patch's friend Rixon, which is brilliant as she is one of my favourite characters and she really grounds the story. Scott is also an interesting character as you know from the start he is hiding a big secret which is revealed very gradually, giving the book quite a lot of tension.

The ending is outstanding and completely caught me by surprise. There are a lot of twists and turns and the last three chapters took the book in a totally different direction to what I was expecting, changing my opinions on all the characters and reshaping Nora's entire world. There is a cliffhanger at the very end which makes me incredibly glad I have the next book here and ready to read.

All in all this was another incredible read and I can't wait to get stuck into Silence.

I'm not sure why I kept reading this series. I don't feel like I really care about the characters. I think Nora kept doing stupid things and making stupid assumptions. Maybe it's because I'm listening to this instead of reading the book that makes me feel this way? ...more

Let's see what was wrong? It was a mix of predictability, nothing really happening from the first page to the last and a really annoying heroine, who is as childish, unfair and insensitive as they come (poor patch). She actually yells at him to LEAVE, then expects him to magically appear when she's in danger (which he does the poor lovestruck fool). Lets just say Bella and Nora could swap notes on irritability!!!!

I really enjoyed Hush, Hush and was eager to read this sequel...

That said, I was extremely frustrated with the characters and I wanted to throttle (almost all of) them throughout the book.

However, I read it in one frantic (secretly extended) lunch break at work. My teeth are still clenched from the frustration I felt when I reached the end.

Its not fair having to wait for the next one. There is a next one, right? There better be.
