I am having a tough time rating this one, so I am going to write my review to get my thoughts together. I apologize if it meanders a bit.
Let's start with this: I really enjoy this series. The world is fun, the magical system is comprehensive and organized, and best of all, I really love the characters. Hmmm...Have I ever told you guys how much I love J names? Jack, John, James, Jim, Japhrimel. Johnny. I really like Johnny. He's nummy. Menessos, meh, I don't care either way. But Johnny? Yeah. Not the best in the series, and I will agree with another reviewer that the series feels lacking in direction. I liked that this one was less pulse pounding action, and centered more on the mystery of Johnnies tattoos. I never really thought it was much like the earlier Anita Blake books with the vamp/werewolf/heroine triangle, but I can see it a little bit now. I really wish that Ms. Robertson would have Menossos learn from his previous dealings with the Dom Lup and Lustrata, and leave Sep ...more
