A solid debut. Evie is a teenager who's only ever known working for a paranormal containment agency. She has a very special and unique ability to see through the glamour of supernatural beings, which comes in very handy for her bag-and-tag missions to collect wayward baddies.
Even though Evie yearns for some semblance of a normal youth, she's happy that she's in a place where she's wanted. Things begin to change after a strange new kind of shape-shifting paranormal breaks into the Center and Evie ...more

First impressions: I have to admit that with the number of people hoisting accolades upon Evie, I didn't want to like her. Or this book. Evie is like the super-popular girl at your new school that everyone says is so nice, but you don't believe them because anyone that popular, and pretty, and cool, cannot possibly also be nice.
But I can admit when I'm wrong. Evie is amazing.
Lasting impressions: The plot may be forgettable, but Evie and Reth and Lend are not. Or Lish. Or Raquel. Or David. Let' ...more

Original and set in an intricate, colorful world, this is the story of Evie, a normal girl with an extraordinary ability in a world filled with paranormals.
Evie is ignorant about many things and her efforts to learn seemed a bit half-hearted to me, but given her age it's understandable. She longs to be normal and delights in experiencing the most mundane, for other kids her age, things, such as lockers and proms.

4.75 stars. I really enjoyed this book. Exciting and sweet premise: teen paranormal hunter working for a government agency and falling for a paranormal boy. Tired of brooding and dark YA paranormal books, this is a refreshing change with likeable, interesting, upbeat characters. Not the best writing, but fun and fresh. Amusing, sad and sweet.
I think my rating is so high, because it is exactly what I felt like reading at the time.

I liked Evelyn (or Evie). She's mostly upbeat and positive, and there isn't a lot of angst. She's mostly content with her life at the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA). Her best friend is Lish, a paranormal who works at the Center, and she has a mother-daughter like relationship with the head of the Center, Raquel. Evie would love to hang around with normal sixteen-year-olds and do normal 16-year-old-type things like go to a real high ...more
