I regret not doing a full re-read before diving back into this series. McGuire has given us so many clues and not-so-throwaway comments over the years that it's difficult to keep track of them all.
And when you come to a book like this, you desperately wish you had all those little riddles at the forefront of your memory. How many of these events were hinted at? How many more are just the start of greater unfoldings?

When series have gone on as long as this has, especially with so many characters, by the eleventh book a lot of the past has to be explained, summaries written, lists of characters included and it can weigh down the book. It could have been worse but it’s been a while since I read the previous book so I was at sea a few times.
