Shelves: what-modern-fantasy, where-grr-mine

Great premise and there was lots of action but the heroine did something stupid which resulted in her being unconscious. Her head was injured way too many times. I like Gabriel, and I knew right away who her later second love interest would be, and I didn't mind him, although I hate love triangles. I was mad that they created a fun gay character at the beginning who was almost immediately killed, and she barely even acknowledges his death.

An interesting world of agents of death, angels, demons and many other magical creatures.

Maddy is a strong character that never gave up even though her world has been turned upside down. She has developed powers she cannot control, is hunted by creatures that hate her not because of anything she did but because of her absent father, who in turn has his own agenda and expectations. “Can I help you?” a voice murmured behind me.

I was pretty out of it, and Gabriel’s voice made me jump about three feet in the air—from my knees, no less. I did a kind of jerky half turn and fell to my left side, landing on my elbow so I wouldn’t squash Beezle while keeping him out of Gabriel’s sight. The impact reverberated through every hurt muscle and bone in my body, and I gritted my teeth as I glared up at him.

I'm not sure why I stopped reading this the first time, started again this week and could hardly put it down. Liked the story and many of the characters (Beezle!) and liked the agent of Death aspect. Fun read, will be looking for book 2 soon. ...more
