From the beginning we know that Eon is a girl who's pretending to be a boy because only males can become Dragoneyes and commune with one of the dragon spirits. The Dragoneyes help keep natural disasters to a minimum and protect the country and the emperor. There is also trouble afoot and the potential for an uprising in the ranks. Can Eon step-up, both as a female and for her country, or will her secret be kept hidden and the status quo maintained?

Enjoyable but frustrating!
Eon(a) for most of the book is an arrogant idiot and/or an ignorant brat, not to mention a coward. She does everything halfway and barely makes any decisions or any thinking for herself, until she has no other choices left.
Apart from her, the story's full of colorful characters. A woman that is really a man, a eunuch that's more man than most men around, a power hungry Dragoneye with his nefarious plots and a young prince shouldering the responsibilities of his sick emp ...more

Juvenile, Frustrating, Dull
I wanted to like this book, normally I like books were females are the central characters. I didn't like the book at all. There were so many problems with the plot, the characters, and the pacing. I would not recommend this book to anyone. ...more
