Sabina's a half-breed vamp with a little bit of the magixes in her! An assassin with a near impossible task and a secret history worthy of the best of Jerry Springer, Vamp edition! While it's not a comedy per se, there are tons of laugh out loud moments and Sabina's as engaging an urban fantasy heroine as I've read in years.
Ps. Loved me some Giguhl, Sabina's demon sidekick. I could read a whole spin-off of Mr. Giggles!

It's true that this debut novel has certain elements in common with other popular series. But really, don't they all?
Jaye Wells' first novel of her Sabina Kane trilogy hits the ground running. When we meet Sabina, she's digging a grave, lamenting the damage to her manicure, and praising black cashmere's ability to camouflage ickyness like blood and gravedirt. Reading this, you know you're in for a macabre yet humorous ride.
And it's funny. There are a lot of one-liners to prompt a gasp. There's a ...more

A fast paced story with a lot of character growth and interesting, if not always likable, characters.
I was really annoyed with Sabina for a big part of the book. I plain disliked her and even thought about stopping the audiobook, especially when she killed her friend before she even heard him out and just because she was told he was a traitor and she had to. Blind obedience never sits well with me and it was worse in that case since she did something so seriously wrong, it should have given her ...more

Average at best. It's a quick read but all the time I couldn't help thinking that I saw all of it done in other books already. The only remotely original thing was the hair color red for vampires. Other than that... Also, Sabina was, at least for me, quite an unlikable character. Her obsession with pleasing her grandmother made her insensible to anything else. The moment she killed her friend, probably the only one she had, just because her grandmother told her so and without even asking him to

For some reason I had it in my head that this was a YA series and hadn't made it a priority until I had the opportunity to read the third installment Green Eyed Demon (thanks to Netgalley). So with no real expectations I started reading and found myself quickly immersed in the story of half vampire/half mage assassin Sabina Kane.

An interesting take on the vampire genre. All vampires have red hair, the deeper colour the older the vamp.
Sabrina is an assassin, the granddaughter of the chief vamp. She's of mixed blood (vamp and mage). With both parents dead she was made to believe that her Mage family didn't want her.
Her latest mission is her toughest, to get close to a rival vamp and kill him - couldn't be that easy though, could it.
This book has vamps, faeries, sexy mages, hairless demon cats (who was very funny), lots of ...more
