Per Rachel's blog: "It's come to my attention that "Reaper" is up for pre-order for the Nook at Barnes & Noble. Which would be cool, except that it's listed with a price of $2.99. That will eventually be the right price at e-book stores, but for the first few months, "Reaper" will be free in most formats, in most places. And it will stay free in PDF format on my website."

. Short story of Tod Hudson's death and how he became a Reaper.

But lots of spoilers so read it after the first 3 Soul Screamers books, My Soul to Take (Soul Screamers, #1) by Rachel Vincent , My Soul to Save (Soul Screamers, #2) by Rachel Vincent and My Soul to Keep (Soul Screamers, #3) by Rachel Vincent .

I am underwhelmed and disappointed by this cover. I thought Tod was blond. The Soul Screamer covers are not my favorites but they are pretty, bright and artistic. This cover is not.

A 3.5, but I'll round up because Tod is my favorite character and having him as first person narrator was a thrill. Getting a look at how and why he became a reaper did much to solidify my opinion of him. He's a smart-ass, a practical thinker, and no matter how gruff he comes off, he cares for his family very much.

Although Tod's reactions to his afterlife were telling, I only wish Vincent had seen fit to drop some of the recapping. Readers of this story are likely aware of her universe, and so

Reaper is the story of Tod, from the Soul Screamers books, became a reaper. The story was well done, and it can stand alone very well. It covers the time period just before the books pick up, so new readers can jump in here without having read any of the books. It also uses Tod, one of the more interesting characters from the Soul Screamers world as the narrator. In the novella we get a better understanding of the relationship between Tod and his younger brother Nash, the relationship between Na ...more

I got this book for free on my Kindle and read it without realizing it was part of a larger series. That said, I didn't feel lost when I was reading it. It is a fairly self-contained short story that gives a lot of background to Tod, one of the major characters in the series. This story was what convinced me to give the Soul Screamers series a try. ...more

Tod...Tod...Tod...Oh how I adore you! I've been reading this off and on when the other half leaves me sitting in the car. Despite the breaks between reading sessions I really think that this was a great addition to the series. I am a huge Rachel Vincent fan and a huge Soul Screamers fan. Tod has been one of my favorite characters since the beginning of this series and getting to read his back story brought more life to one of my favorite characters. Also I just enjoyed getting a look at pre reap ...more
