Read this on my Kindle. It was a interesting short story and a good introduction to a new series by Rachel Vincent. I can't wait to read the 1st full length book, My Soul to Take. It is a little reminiscent of Kelley Armstrong's new teen series, The Darkest Powers, where a teen has a power she doesn't know about and is put into a mental place to deal with it also. Other wise that's where the similarities end.

Having never read anything from Vincent before, I was pleasantly surprised by the prequel to her Soul Screamers series. The writing was tight, the character of Kaylee felt very real, and the terror of her "panic attacks" was so well described, I felt my own throat closing uncomfortably. For an introduction to a new UF universe, it did its job of peaking my interest--I'll seek out the book.

Quick story that should be read before My Soul To Take. Sets up the series nicely and introduces a very interesting character in Lydia. Hopefully her story/talent will be fully explained in the other books.

Reread so I can start this series. Glad I did because I didn't remember any of it from 4 years ago. And it made me excited to dig into the Soul Screamers.

I liked this novella, and I'm glad I read it before I started the series. It's a good introduction to the characters, and it's very well written and well paced.
