I'm torn about the rating for this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the development of the conflict among the Psy and how they are dealing with the fracture of Silence. This overall arc is moving along really exciting paths, specially now that the 3 races (Psy, Changeling & Human) are looking to each other not as enemies but as necessary to each others well being. But certain groups will not take this fundamental change in ideology without a fight, even if what they are fighting for has b **3.5 stars**

I'm torn about the rating for this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the development of the conflict among the Psy and how they are dealing with the fracture of Silence. This overall arc is moving along really exciting paths, specially now that the 3 races (Psy, Changeling & Human) are looking to each other not as enemies but as necessary to each others well being. But certain groups will not take this fundamental change in ideology without a fight, even if what they are fighting for has been proven to flawed. Just like a lot of conflicts in human history.

Tangle of Need also has more POVs than usual. I don't necessarily mind that (specially when we have some yummy Psy men) but I thought the sections with Hawke and Sienna were a bit too much. I liked learning how the Pack dealt with the battle's aftermath and how their relationship was progressing, but there were just too many saccharine moments.

But the parts that really had me scratching my head pertained to Adria & Riaz. I didn't feel any connection to them and didn't like how their problems were solved. There were just too many plot holes that didn't mesh with what we previously knew about the whole mating business.

Warning: the section below has some spoilers.

In previous books, the mating dance started after the leads were already in some sort of relationship. It didn't seem like a fated thing but that once the human sides got to know each other, the animal side of the men would pick and then the mating dance would start. In this book, it changed to a fated mating where the 'universe' picked a couple to be together before they even knew each other.

Now, I understand that every mating is different so I don't necessarily think adding a fated mating is inconsistent. But what I don't understand is how the mating bond could start with a woman that was already in love with somebody else. Wouldn't that cancel it? (I imagine it like signal that's repelled on the other end) How would 'the universe' make that mistake?

But if the 'universe' is not wrong, then this other man is not really the love of the woman's life but the changeling is. Which means that the changeling has a chance to get his mate!

However, Riaz just rolled over and died which is not AT ALL consistent with what we're told of predatory changeling males. They are supposed to be ruthless, possessive, dominant and patient. Is that the kind of man that wouldn't even give it a shot to "the most important relationship of a changeling's life"? I don't think so.

Also, it was never discussed that by being with Riaz, Adria was giving up the possibility of being mated herself. If she had been human or Psy, then it wouldn't have mattered but she's a changeling who has probably dreamed of being mated. Would she really accept a man in this circumstances? No matter how the author tried to solve it at the end, I'd never believe that Adria wouldn't continue to have those feelings of being "the consolation prize" or second best.

I understand why the author played with the circumstances to create a different "tangle" but it really didn't work for me. However, the book was worth the read because the aforementioned race strife. ...more

I really loved this series, and so I'm not sure why it took me so long to get to this book. I think part of it is that the changeling/changeling romances don't appeal to me as much as the psy/changeling... those totally different personality types coming together just, imo, make for a richer story.

That said, I enjoyed this. Riaz and Adria were fun, and while I could have stood for less Sienna (I know other people burned out on Sascha, but I love her... whereas Sienna just was a spoiled brat for ...more

Shame on me for taking a two-year hiatus from this series. Kudos to Singh that I was able to quickly pick up where I left off without being left in the dust of so many characters and interwoven plotlines all coming together. That's the amazing style of her writing and the stories that she tells - they stick with you, they are so indelible.
