Uhhh I don't understand why everyone was so upset with the ending. I've got no problems with it.

A pink cover and comes out on my birthday!

Here's hoping her gift to me is Kiyo's slow, painful death; preferably by castration, but I'll also accept a mortal gut wound.

There's one thing I can say with absolute certainty: Mead is still adept at writing hypocritical heroines. Eugenie blithely makes solo decisions whilst bitterly railing against anyone who does the same. Her complaint that she's afraid to trust anyone is moot when, through the course of the series, she repeatedly acts in underhanded and selfish ways.

Saving grace: It wasn't until the end of the book that this trait to cropped up in a significant way. Until that point, I was actually enjoying myse

Ugh, ugh and triple ugh. Eugenie has to be the most selfish, self-centered protagonist that I've ever come across. The book was rolling along at a decent 2.5 stars until the end with the choices that were made.

For elaboration on all comments, see my review of the previous book in the series. I will NOT be moving on if this series continues.

Very disappointed by the ending of this series. It was fantastic until the last 3 pages. It wasn't that Shadow Heir was terrible. My understanding that it was the end of the series yet Mead left openings so that she may or may not write another to the series. It's irritating when you know it's the end, and yet the leading lady doesn't do the right thing. It is a possibility that Mead did this intentionally so that she could write about the babies that were born in this installment. Seeing how she ...more

I never tried to hid the fact that I am a huge Mead fangirl. I can't get enough of her books. And his was always my favorite series. Eugenie seemed to just have impossible situations continually thrust in front of her. I did enjoy seeing he pregnancy unfold, and how she kept herself safe. Watching her make the decision to go to the otherworld to save her people from the blight that is plaguing only certain areas of the otherworld. he whole situation broke my heart. The journey through the otherw ...more

I wanted to love this book, but the low stars for this installment are mainly because of the letdown that was the ending. I have enjoyed the entire Dark Swan series and the character of Eugenie, even though she makes horrible decisions. I really wanted to see a tighter focus on the characters in this book instead of another sweeping adventure, but I did enjoy this book. I am just very disappointed in the non-ending and the choices that Eugenie makes that seem very hypocritical after everything s ...more

I have got to say I am so tired of being disappointed by Richelle's endings that I am not sure I ever want to read her books again. When I finish a series I expect an HEA. I don't think it is to much to ask after supporting an Author through out a full series. She is a great writer and creates some wonderful worlds, but I just can't invest anymore time into her series if I am not going to feel satisfied in the end. ...more

So finally Dark Swan ends... and what a controversial end at that. I love Richelle Mead and all of her books..and this one did not disappoint me as well. There were definitely some shockers in there.. but a fun - fun read... I am not sure I am entirely convinced of the ending.. Not sure if Eugenie makes the right choices.. but the world is never perfect.. a Mother's gotta do what a Mother has to do I guess. The end's not really a cliff hanger more of mayb-be - what if..probably kind.. Took some ...more

What a fantastic waste of time and disappointment. To put it simply, this book was boring. The plot was lame and Mead seemed to tell it in the most boring way possible. Normally, I would say read this, just to see how it all ends, but to be honest, its not even worth the effort. just read a few spoilers and you're sorted. What annoyed me the most was watching Eugenie make these stupid decisions each time like some kind of moron. its sad to watch (or read I guess). *sigh* Richelle Mead comes up w ...more

Final Thoughts:
I enjoyed learning more about Volusian more than anything. I didn't feel a desperate need for certain outcomes, probably because of how long I waited to read this one. And, while there were loose ends remaining, I think I am okay with how the series ended.

Kiyo is a rat. What a total boob. I'm so glad Eugenie has nothing more to do with him.

Lots of action and the twist at the end made this a great ending for this series.
