This book had the same convoluted plot points as the first one and again, they didn't make much sense to me to me. So according to this premise, only calm, happy people will be saved? There doesn't seem to be allowances for differences in temperament or situation. If you're sad and hopeless one day, you let a demon into your life and you're doomed! 3 1/2?? I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this book. I really liked the first in the spin-off, Wicked Nights, and I'm a huge fan of the LOTU series, but this one seemed a little off. I'm struggling with a description... It wasn't bad, but it wasn't up to par with the rest of the books, I guess. I was confused in parts (like where this 'Sent Ones' thing came from rather than just different classes of angels like before; (view spoiler) 3 1/2?? I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this book. And a little bit put off in parts -- I kind of feel like there was an overall implication that people die of illnesses (etc) because they don't have 'faith'... which is kinda fucked up. Maybe I'm reading into it wrong, but that was the impression that I got. (view spoiler) Sorry, I'm ranting a little bit I guess. Like I said, it's not really that the plot was bad, and the characters weren't bad (I liked Axel especially :)). I just really didn't enjoy it all that much; I found myself scanning, which I've never done with Showalter's series', mostly through the more Sunday-Schoolish parts -- the 'He loves all His children' type things.
Really, I think I just spent the whole time kinda irritated in the faith based self-healing idea and the implications that went along with it... and that's not me saying that a positive attitude is a bad thing or anything like that, it's just me saying that obviously not everyone who has faith and 'sows joy' can miraculously be cured of cancer or what-have-you. And people don't die of cancer because they don't 'believe' enough -- They die because they have frickin cancer.
ANYWAY! I just hope this isn't the kind of theme I will continue to see in this series; next time I won't be buying the book straight away, I'll borrow first. And read lots of reviews on here also! ...more

I was thrilled to discover that Gena's angel of choice for Beauty Awakened, the second book in her Lords of the Underworld spin-off series Angels of the Dark, would focus on Koldo because throughout the first book (Wicked Nights) I was fascinated by this wingless Sent One. In this regard, she did not disappoint. Koldo's past is as scarred as his back and his happiness is well-deserved.

Beauty Awakened is the second book in the Angels of the Dark series which is a spin-off from the popular Lords of the Underworld books.

Zacharel was such a strong presence in Wicked Nights but even then my attention drifted to one of the more mysterious warriors in the Army of Disgrace. Koldo was quieter than the others but I could sense his story would be a good one. That was an understatement!

I don't remember you from the first book, but I will remember you for-evah!I read the reviews for this before I started reading and people didn't like it as much as they thought they would. Now that I'm finished, I'm a tiny bit baffled as to why the people that didn't like it, didn't like it that much. Meh, whatever. To each their own, right?I can understand where one would think this is a more inspirational story within the rest of the other books. It was lighter and more romantic than it was smutty and sexy. There were more rainbows and dancing unicorns mixed in. But maybe that was the point for Koldo's book. Maybe he's just that way. Maybe he secretly has a collection of My Little Pony in his cloud and Gena wanted us all to see that. I even thought the new guy, Clerici, might be a bridge into what people thought was part of the "message." But when I looked it up, Clerici is a solution that is of equal parts of thallium formate (Tl(CHO2)) and thallium malonate (Tl(C3H3O4)) in water. It is a freely flowing, odorless liquid which changes from yellowish to colorless upon decreasing the concentration of the thallium salts. So much for that assumption.Koldo thinks he can teach Nicola how to get past the demons in her life. To bring back joy and start to live again. How is that any different than some tortured hero being redeemed by some woman he meets and finds irresistible? Is it because he's the one doing the teaching and the fact that he's an angel? Even so, in the end, he was the one that needed to follow his own advice. Hell, I was trying to project that into him half way through his book. "Dude, seriously, let it go. Some of the stuff you were doing is bringing me down."As far as the lack of pages and pages of smexy smuttiness, I was relieved. After a while, it all starts to sound the same. What would really impress me is if the sex scene involved people hanging upside down and knitting a sweater while doing the deed. It's possible, he is growing his wings back. ...more

S0metimes the sec0nd b0ok is better than the first bo0k in a series. This is true f0r Beauty Awakened. I love the characters, the injected hum0r, and the inn0cence of their desire for each other, the slow excitement. The l0ve is slow g0ing and they sort of to0k their time to get to kn0w the other.

Romance was a bit lacking, and I wasnt sure what to think about the world, I need to read the first book to understand whats going on a bit better.
