I’ve read so many Urban Fantasy books with pretty much the same tropes that I’m delighted when I find something new. Yes, Written in Red has the usual gamut of supernatural creatures – vampires, shifters – but the world is definitely different: one where “the Others” are on top and humans are living on their sufferance.

Going into this book I had high expectations because so many of my trusted bookie friends loved it and recommended it. They were so right! I not only loved this book but I found myself unable to rush through it. I took my time to savor it and I don't regret it one bit.

The Good Stuff: The world building was top notch. Bishop has created a world beyond the typical Urban Fantasy world. In most UF books werewolves, vampires, etc live in our world. A world the humans created. One where the bump in th ...more

I've had this one on my TBR list ever since it came out, but I hesitated starting it, thinking I'd hate to wait for the next book of the series if I liked it as much as reviews suggested. I'm glad I waited!

Written in Red introduces us to a world where humans are the minority, while the "Others" rule. The Others are different types of creatures, from shifters, to vampires, to Elementals, and their powers are anything but negligible. Treaties have been signed between the two races, and cities have I've had this one on my TBR list ever since it came out, but I hesitated starting it, thinking I'd hate to wait for the next book of the series if I liked it as much as reviews suggested. I'm glad I waited!

Written in Red introduces us to a world where humans are the minority, while the "Others" rule. Treaties have been signed between the two races, and cities have been built where they uneasily coexist, studying each other while trying to figure out how to improve the relationship between them.

Meg finds herself in one of those cities and having very few options if she wants to survive, she applies for the job of human liaison for the Lakeside Courtyard and slowly becomes acquainted with the various Others around. She is not like other humans, and that fact alone intrigues and annoys Simon, the wolf leader of the Courtyard.

Meg is a cassandra sangue, aka a blood prophet, something that she keeps a secret from everyone for a while, but ends up (view spoiler).

Very intriguing story and characters, in a world I'm looking forward to reading more about, starting with Murder of Crows next. ...more

Really interesting fantasy world. Different and it's a workable way to have blood thirsty predators also sympathetic. I really like it so far.

Tess is supposed to be terrifying and deadly and Simon is afraid of her but she's very sweet to Meg, more than just making friends.

How does she have money if she just started working? How could she have stolen it from the institute?

I can't believe they named the child Lizzie Borden.

There were parts of this book that were so funny, I laughed out loud. The ...more
