How funny, just last week I wrote a review about how much I missed the old Gena Showalter, and then last night I got to the first real juicy scene in the sequel to Last Kiss Goodnight, Black and Blue (#2 in the Otherworld Assassins series). And, it was a nice surprise. I am not sure that Black and Blue is still quite up to par (based on standards set by the first Lords of the Underworld books) but... it was a huge improvement over Last Kiss Goodnight. This is the first Gena Showalter book that I was not too impressed by. I liked the first book in this series, but I really couldn't get into this one. It was a slow book, plus the plot was a little hard to follow at some points. Evie was a very unlikeable character and I didn't like Corbin that much either; though, they were at least tolerable by the end of the book.

I really liked this book. The growing relationship between Corbin Blue and Eva Black is quirky and passionate and their conversational interplay was excellent and elicited a few snorts and giggles. Looking forward to hearing John's story.
