I finished this the other day and I have to say that even though I really did enjoy this one it didn't have quite the punch that the first one did.
But I think that it was a necessary step back in a way so that she could build the characters within the book. You couldn't have Elena being able to all things as just new angel. Elena was good how she wanted to learn but felt frustrated with not being as good as she use to be even though she still has all of her hunter skills. I still have to say tha

Well, I'm enjoying the series so far. Elena awakes from a year long coma to discover she is no longer human. She is now an immortal, but as she's discovered the previous year even those considered immortal aren't. Trying to figure out the new relationship between herself and Raphael she asks, "What do I call you? Hisband? Mate? Boyfriend?"
His response, "You can call me 'Master'."

Well, I guess we'll see how long that will last. Meanwhile, other angels are not so pleased about Elena's transformati

Elena Devereaux has spent the last year in a coma, her body healing after the fight that nearly took her life and transformed her into an angel. She awakens changed, but weakened and with much to learn. Elena is forced to learn quickly though as an invitation arrives to a ball at the ancient and deadly archangel Lijuan's home. But even as Elena and Raphael prepare, someone is determined to remove Raphael from power and strikes at the heart of the angelic sanctuary they are calling home.

Like this better than the first book. Great plot. Relationship between main characters seemed much more believeable.

Now an angel herself, the Guild Hunter, Elena, wakes up from a coma only to find she has been invited to a ball by an archangel. If she says no, it'll weaken Raphael's standing in the Cadre.

Thoughts on the Series
A formulaic series with HEAs. It can get violent and dark though, but it can also get repetitive. I'd suggest spacing out the books--and there are a lot of them--for days when you need a certain happy ending.

Wow. I mean, wow. I really am enjoying this series! It is so great to get to dig in-depth on these characters. I love love love watching Elena and Raphael's relationship evolve. I love the way that both characters learn to compromise, learn to trust each other.

Honestly, this series is just fantastic.

4.5*s There was plenty of danger and mystery, but overall I thought it was a beautiful love story between Elena and Raphael.
